"AI", Artificial Intelligence, was a completely different movie than I expected it to be like. The movie had some tremendous special effects, visual effects, and twists. I was not expecting such a long drawn out movie like this one. The movie was very detailed, and at times very dramatic with some of the situations faced in the movie by the characters. In my opinion I think the movie was a bit drawn out, it was a two and a half hour movie, so it was pretty long.
One great character in the movie, was Teddy, a SuperToy® of Martin, a real child of two people and follows wherever David (Haley Joel Osment) wherever he goes. In this technological world of robotic butlers and cooks, it makes you wonder if there will really be something like this movie one day. A child that has feelings, that can walk, talk, cry, and have feelings for someone.
Now, let's talk about my favorite point of view to look at the movie, besides the special/visual effects coordinator :) The cinematographer. There were some excellent camera angles and moves I've never seen in any movie ever before. They had a window that was sort of fogged with vertical lines, making it only possible to see a blurred image of what was behind it. That effect was used a few too many times, but it was great. Also, at the beginning of the film, when David was introduced to his parents for the first time, all you can see when he walked out of the scientist's office is a blurred form of a small child, which I thought looked really neat. Click here to see an example of that shot in the trailer (about a quarter of the way through). Another great camera shot was when David (Haley Joel Osment) looked through a face of a "Mecha" (robot) as if he was putting a mask on from the back. He slowly walked into the mask, but you didn't know what he was walking up towards, so then once he got up to it they slowly zoomed out the camera to show it was a face of a "Mecha".
This movie was filmed in a very unique way. It was filmed in only 68 days, because the director Steven Spielberg didn't want anyone to notice any change in Haley Joel Osment, whether he grew a bit taller, or his voice changed. After all, he's not real ;)
Should you go see the movie? Yes, at about a 6:00 P.M. showing :) because it's very long, and you need to understand well what's going on in the movie and see what's happening. Be prepared though, it's a movie that shows almost every detail of something done in the movie.
